Hey!!! I need some advice regarding an install. I have natural hair (4a/b texture) and i want to get a deep wave install that's about 18-22 in, to leave in for about 6-8 weeks. What are your thoughts on a lace closure vs full sew in vs a small leave out? I've had a full sew in before, but it's always been with straight hair, and I don't know if that will be a good decision with this hair texture. Please let me know what you think :-)

Hi! Thanks for inserting the details!

A full sew in with deep wave hair will look nice in either option of a lace closure, or a small leave out.

With the lace closure….you must make sure your closure is thin enough for it too look natural. Many times when people buy closures they opt for ones that are very dense. (About 150%+ in density) This is okay to do but when your working with curlier textures such as a deep wave, you do not want your closure to be too thick. The hair itself is already thick. If you get a closure that has 150% density or more, the top of your head will look very big. The hair will not lie flat, and it will look unnatural. If you are using a closure with deep wavy textures or curlier, find a closure that is about 140% dense or less. I myself recently created a kinky curl wig that I will be installing soon, and the closure I am using is only 120% dense. This is perfect for creating a natural look that flattens a bit when I part it.

***Cons- you have to get the closure re-sewn every few weeks as your hair grows. (FYI you should be washing your hair every 3-4 weeks so you may have to get the closure re-sewn anyways)

With a natural leave out… you will have to sharpen your blending techniques. 4a textured hair will work, but you have to find a method of matching your hair perfectly to the weave. I have found that the BEST way to blend hair with deep wavy or kinky curly hair is with cold wave rods.

  1. Spritz some leave in conditioner on your leave out at night. You can also wet the hair but that is optional.
  2. Braid the leave out in large or small braids according to how curly your weave is.
  3. Grab a cold wave rod and wrap a braid around. Wrap the rod as closely to the root as you can get then clip the rod to secure the braid.
  4. Place a scarf or cap over your hair at night, then in the morning remove the rods and finger out the braids.

***Cons- braiding your hair each night can be annoying. Also, after doing the blending technique over the course of a few days the curls start to look less defined and more frizzy. This can be fixed by simply washing and conditioning the leave out when you start to notice it.

Either method is ideal for the hairstyle you are trying to achieve. It all comes down to how hands off you would like to be. If you just want to pack your up at night and wake up and go the next morning maybe the closure option is right for you. If you don’t feel like re-sewing your closure down every 3-4 weeks, then maybe the leave out method is for you.

I hope this has helped you. Please let me know how it goes for you, and feel free to send pictures of your results! If you have any more questions hit the message box!

Hi, im trying to achieve a sew in w Dark roots going into dark red ends. Do you know any good Permanent dyes i can purchase?

I don’t know the color your aiming for specifically but I always use Clairol semi permanent dyes when I’m working toward dark red hair.  The last color I used was called Burgundy Brown from the Beautiful Collection. You should be able to find it in most beauty supply stores. It comes pre mixed in the bottle, so all you have to do is apply it to the hair.

Hi I wanted to ask I'm getting a versatile sew with hair left out all around the front super long and all on the sides but my back is like 3 inches expect one spot is like an inch short is this bad can I use edge grow? Also is a net good or back my hair needs oil I don't want to neglect it but the hair stylist said a net is better I'm natural so idk can you explain nets and no nets please ? It's my first time for a sew in

Hey! Thanks for your question. If its just one spot that’s an inch shorter its not too bad. If you’re putting your hair in a ponytail you can use bobby pins to clip up the shorter hair pieces.

Your stylist is right. Using a net is better as allows for more secure sewing, which will in turn help the weave last longer. Also if you use a net, you can still oil your scalp. Try and buy oil sprays or moisturizers of your choice, and spray through the hair net to get to your scalp. You can definitely still care for and nourish your hair with a net weave.
